  1. Reading Personal Messages
  2. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  3. In common with Wildcat! Online Systems, Power-QWK recognises 
  4. three types of messages: Public, Private and Personal.
  5.  
  6. A Public message is a message which may be read by any user of 
  7. the online service.
  8.  
  9. A Private message is a message which may be read only by the 
  10. addressee.
  11.  
  12. A Personal message is any message, Public or Private, which is 
  13. addressed to YOU.
  14.  
  15. When you enter the Power-QWK Offline reader (by selecting 
  16. 'Offline Reader' at the Main Menu), Power-QWK presents you with a 
  17. list of all the available conferences which you can then select 
  18. for reading, one at a time. General mail (i.e., mail not 
  19. specifically addressed to yourself) is always read in this 
  20. manner.

  22. However, you can elect to have Power-QWK present your Personal 
  23. messages in one of two ways:
  24.  
  25. Either altogether, irrespective of conference of origin, when you 
  26. first enter the Offline Reader, OR only when you select a 
  27. conference containing Personal mail.

  29. Whichever method is chosen, you will always read Personal mail 
  30. twice. This is because, although Power-QWK creates a Personal 
  31. Message Index, to enable Personal Mail to be read first, when you 
  32. read a message via this Index it is not marked as read in the 
  33. Main Conference Index.

  35. Extracting Personal messages to be read before others, whilst 
  36. sometimes convenient, means that those messages may be read out 
  37. of context. That is to say, they may form parts of conversational 
  38. threads which could be broken if the message were marked as read 
  39. when it had only been seen in isolation.

  41. If you prefer, you can select 'No special treatment' for Personal
  42. messages. This means that Power-QWK will treat Personal messages
  43. just like other messages: you will read them in their correct
  44. sequence when you read each conference, maintaining threads and
  45. reading each message only once before it is marked as 'read'.

  47. If you choose this option, you can still read your Personal
  48. messages first, in each conference, by using a Wildcard search
  49. for messages with your name in the 'To' field (Press F2 when
  50. you have a message on the screen).
  51.
